Proposed Site Removal from Washington State Department of Ecology’s Hazardous Sites List

The Pollution Liability Insurance Agency (PLIA) invites public comment on the proposed removal of Pioneer Valley Elementary School from the state’s Hazardous Sites List pursuant to            WAC 173-340-330(10).”

The site is occupied by Pioneer Valley Elementary School. In 2000, vandalism resulted in the leaking of approximately 20 to 30 gallons of heating oil. The lines connected to an above ground storage tank (AST) leaked heating oil into the soil.  The contaminated soil was excavated and the AST was removed.

PLIA performed regulatory review of the site under the Heating Oil Technical Assistance Program. PLIA determined that the site meets the substantive requirements of the Model Toxics Control Act. The site no longer poses a threat to human health or the environment.
